Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 September 2026

MakerVA respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and share personal information when you visit makerva.co.uk, create an account, register as a maker, purchase a product, contact us or otherwise use the MakerVA marketplace.

MakerVA is operated by Ashley Harrison trading as MakerVA. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Ashley Harrison trading as MakerVA is the data controller for personal information for which MakerVA determines the purposes and means of processing.

You can contact us about privacy or data protection at hello@makerva.co.uk.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use MakerVA, we may collect information including your name, email address, telephone number, billing and delivery addresses, account details, order and transaction information, communications with us and technical information about how you use the website.

If you register as a maker, we may also collect your business or trading name, store information, contact details, payment or bank details required for withdrawals, product and order information and other information reasonably required to operate your seller account and the marketplace.

We do not normally receive or store your full payment-card details. Card payments are processed through the payment services enabled on our WooCommerce website.

How we use your information

We may use your personal information to operate MakerVA; create and manage customer and maker accounts; process purchases; administer maker sales, commissions and withdrawals; enable makers to fulfil customer orders; communicate about accounts and orders; respond to enquiries; prevent fraud and misuse; maintain the security and functionality of the website; comply with legal, tax and accounting obligations; and improve MakerVA.

Where required by law, we rely on an appropriate lawful basis for processing, including performance of a contract, compliance with a legal obligation, our legitimate interests and consent.

Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time.

Marketplace orders and makers

MakerVA is a multi-vendor marketplace powered by WooCommerce and Dokan.

When you purchase from an independent maker, information necessary to process and fulfil your order may be made available to that maker. This may include your name, delivery address, contact information and relevant order details.

Makers must only use customer information for legitimate purposes connected with fulfilling orders, providing customer service and meeting their legal obligations. They must not use customer information obtained through MakerVA for unrelated marketing without an appropriate lawful basis.

Payments and maker withdrawals

Customer payments are processed using the payment services available through MakerVA’s WooCommerce website.

MakerVA currently operates a marketplace commission system. Dokan records the amount due to a maker after the applicable MakerVA commission. Eligible makers can request withdrawal of their available balance, and withdrawals may be paid using the payment methods made available by MakerVA, currently including bank transfer.

Information necessary to process payments, prevent fraud or administer withdrawals may be shared with relevant payment and financial-service providers.

Who we share information with

We may share personal information where necessary with independent makers from whom a customer purchases; payment processors and financial-service providers; website hosting and technical-service providers; WooCommerce, Dokan and other services used to operate MakerVA; professional advisers; delivery providers where applicable; and government, regulatory or law-enforcement authorities where required by law.

We do not sell your personal information.

How long we keep information

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and to satisfy legal, accounting, tax, fraud-prevention and dispute-resolution requirements.

Different types of information may therefore be retained for different periods.

Cookies and similar technologies

MakerVA may use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the website, accounts, shopping basket, checkout and other functionality to work.

We may also use optional analytics or other technologies. Where consent is legally required for non-essential cookies or similar technologies, we will request that consent before using them.

Further information may be provided through our Cookie Policy or cookie-consent system.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure.

No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but we take appropriate steps to protect the information entrusted to us.

Your data protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights including the right to request access to your personal information; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of information; request restriction of processing; object to certain processing; request transfer of information in certain circumstances; and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

These rights are subject to applicable legal conditions and exemptions.

To exercise your rights, contact hello@makerva.co.uk.

Complaints

If you have concerns about how MakerVA handles your personal information, please contact us first at hello@makerva.co.uk so that we can try to resolve the issue.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as MakerVA develops or where our legal, technical or marketplace arrangements change.

The latest version will be published on makerva.co.uk with an updated revision date.
