The Christmas Spider Legend……According to Eastern European Folklore. A young widow was very sad one Christmas Eve because she was unable to afford to decorate her tree. The spiders of the house knew of her plight. She was always very kind to them so they spun webs on her tree and in the first light of Christmas morning the sun shone through the window making her tree sparkle and shine and she was very happy. From then on, spiders were considered lucky and a spider ornament is often hung on the Christmas tree to bestow good luck upon the house.
